Special football helmets alert coaches when potential brain injuries occur.


The gridiron is a notoriously
dangerous place. From the pee-wee leagues all the way up to the NFL, football players suffer about 300,000 concussions from head impacts every year. The fear is that recurrent concussions may contribute to neurological decline and may be linked to neurodegenerative diseases later in life. Athlete’s who get their bell rung think it’s part of the game and that they can play through it, but that may no longer be an option thanks to special helmets equipped with sensors that can beam information on the blows players sustain to laptops on the sidelines.
