Executives across a range of positions at privately-held life science companies enjoyed a 5.9 percent increase in their bases salaries in 2007. The survey, co-sponsored by Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Markets Practice, J. Robert Scott Executive Search, and the law firm WilmerHale, focused on primarily venture-backed companies. It found non-founder CEOs earned $281,000 in base salary in 2007, up from $270,000. Among the executive ranks tracked in the report, the chief technology officer was the only position to see a decrease in base salary as the average CTO earned an average of $179,000 in 2007 from $183,000 the previous year. The number of executives eligible for bonuses in 2007 rose to 78 percent, up from 62 percent in 2006. CEOs brought home the biggest bonuses as a percent of bases salary among all the positions surveyed with an average of 25 percent.
