Biotechnology industry leaders see regulatory burdens and political interference as the most difficult challenges facing the industry over the next five to ten years. The Biotechnology Industry Organization commissioned a national survey that questioned 252 biotechnology executives. Overall, these executives are optimistic about the industry's future, with nearly 80 percent strongly agreeing the industry will continue to develop new therapeutics and products to help address global needs in health care, agriculture, energy, and the environment. More than half also believe the pace at which scientific discoveries are made in biotech will be faster in the next decade than it is today.
