Capitol Spending

Pharmaceutical lobbying reaches record level in 2007 as industry spends $168 million as key legislation took center stage.

The pharmaceutical industry spent a record $168 million on lobbying in 2007 as legislation relating to the reauthorization of user fees collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, new powers for the FDA and other issues critical to the industry came before Congress. A report from The Center for Public Integrity reported that figure represented a 32 percent increase over 2006 and credit not only the legislative calendar, but the Democratic takeover in Congress as well.
