Each cassette is labeled with a unique bar code number and the date of the collection. In order to encourage donation, the identities of both the donor and the recipient are kept anonymous. CHOC maintains a confidential linking form, so that if a donor did want to later find her own child's cord blood, and it hadn't been used in a transplant, the cord blood could be located.
