Red blood cells
Red blood cells are separated from the plasma and white blood cells. Lab technicians added an agent that binds to the red blood cells to make them heavier and waited 30 minutes. The blood cells are drained out the bottom and disposed of. When frozen, red blood cells easily burst, contaminating the supply and thus are disposed of as waste, which also saves precious space in the freezers. |
